...building great Wisconsin companies
This year marks 40 years in business for Alsum Farms & Produce, a Friesland, Wisconsin company that grows, packs and ships potatoes and onions, and sells wholesale fruits and vegetables. Since Larry Alsum took over operations in 1981, he has grown this family-owned business from 10 to 140 employees. With Small Business Development Center (SBDC) market research and strategic planning assistance, the company continues to expand.
With assistance from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-La Crosse, Northern Battery landed a five-year government contract. Kirk Donskey, vice president of the La Crosse-based manufacturer, worked with SBDC Director Anne Hlavacka to amp up his company’s involvement in government contracting.
Schaefer Brush Manufacturing is a fourth generation, privately held company that has grown to become one of the most diverse brush manufacturers in the world. That diversity and the ability to evolve with the changing needs of a wide range of industries have kept this Waukesha-based manufacturer running strong for 108 years. Since Schaefer Brush President Sheri Reichart started working with the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Whitewater, the company has increased revenue, improved performance and added jobs.
After eight years of perfecting his LED-lit windshield for motorcycles and building a business, John Miller is ready to take New Berlin-based Illumatek to the next level.
