...building great Wisconsin companies
When Casey and Michele Wanek noticed a “For Sale” sign on a favorite restaurant near their vacation cabin, the couple quit their jobs and moved to a new community to pursue a dream of small business ownership. In July 2013, after working with an SBDC consultant to complete a business plan, the Waneks got a loan and purchased Paris in Pembine, a restaurant and bar in Pembine, Wisconsin.
Tracy Lundberg’s Sconnie Foods Squeezable Sauerkraut landed on grocery store shelves in the Chippewa Valley area in early 2013. Seeing the potential for sauerkraut that promised “less waste, less mess, less hassle,” Lundberg applied science and ingenuity to create squeezable sauerkraut.
John Gustafson, winner of the $5,000 grand-prize for the 2013 Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corporation’s annual Idea Challenge, thanks the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) consultants he worked with for encouraging him to enter the competition. His winning product idea, the Thor Mini Quick-Tach™ is a universal quick-attach system for sub-compact utility tractor attachments.

Imme now anticipates the same success with her second center set to open in January 2014 in Brookfield. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Milwaukee helped Imme get her business off the ground and continues to be a valuable resource as she grows.
